North Surrey Branch
covers the Administrative areas of Runnymede and
Spelthorne from Stanwell in the North to Woodham in the
South.
The pubs in the area are distinctive and varied making
for some most enjoyable drinking and socialising. For
some time the area has lacked its own local Brewery but
is well served by the adjacent micro trade - Grand Union
and Hogs Back, Surrey Hills, Twickenham. This year has
seen the launch of the Wayland Brewery at Addlestone
with their highly respected craft ales.
The
Branch has been active since 1974 and is very keen to
attract members through its policy of mixing social and
business activities where all members are welcome to
participate at any level contributing as much or as
little as their time allows. Being involved is enjoyable
keeps you in touch and ensures that the branch maintains
a broad open attitude to local concerns and can campaign
effectively to retain all that is good about beer, our
pubs and the environment.
Pub of The Year Award for 2007 returns to John
and Clare at the Barley Mow in Shepperton for their
community local and great beer range, 2006 was awarded
to Pat and Sue at the Royal Marine, Lyne, this little
gem retains all that is great in the Great British Pub.
2005 went to the team at The Crown in Egham, 2004 was
awarded to the Barley Mow in Shepperton and 2001-2003
saw an amazing three year win by Phil and Lesley at the
Bells, Staines. The common factor great pubs, great
beer, great people.
