East & Mid Surrey Pub of the Year 2011 – Surrey Oaks, Newdigate
The Surrey Oaks, Newdigate is once again our overall branch pub of the year for 2011. This is amazingly the ninth consecutive year that the pub has won this award.
The landlord, Ken Proctor, has been at the Surrey Oaks for an amazing seventeen years and on some occasions has even been described as ‘cheery’! Ken takes great pride in running the Surrey Oaks in a way that a few more pubs would do well to follow. With every visit to the Surrey Oaks, you are able to enjoy a fantastic range of ever changing real-ales as well as some excellent food in the restaurant. The certificate was presented by Clive Jennings (Branch Chair) with Ross Hunter (Surrey Hills Brewery) in the background.
As a result of being voted East & Mid Surrey Pub of the Year, the Surrey Oaks went forward to the Surrey Pub of the Year competition where, fantastically, it won! The Surrey Oaks has now won this award for the last seven years, which however you look at it, is an amazing achievement. The certificate was presented by Kevin Travers (Surrey Area Organiser).
East & Mid Surrey Town Pub of the Year 2011 – Garland, Redhill
The Garland, Redhill was voted our branch town pub of the year for 2011. The pub is run by Stuart and Lesley Dimmock, who have been the licensees for the last two years. It’s a classic street corner local that prides itself on selling the full range of Harveys ales in excellent condition and at very good prices. E&MS CAMRA have always rated the Garland very highly and this award is much deserved.
During the presentation on 8th June, Miles Jenner (Head Brewer and Joint Managing Director at Harveys) also made a special appearance. The certificate was presented by Clive Jennings (Branch Chair)
East & Mid Surrey Club of the Year 2011 – Kingswood Village Club, Lower Kingswood
The Kingswood Village Club, Lower Kingswood, was voted our branch club of the year for 2011.
The ‘KVC’ as it is known locally, had an amazing seven real ales (three on the bar and four from the cellar) available during a CAMRA social on 15th June 2011. During this social, the certificate was presented by Clive Jennings (Branch Chair) to Barry Convery, Club Steward of the ‘KVC’.
Whilst the ‘KVC’ is usually a members only club, presentation of a valid CAMRA membership card will allow you free entry to the club.
East & Mid Surrey Cider Pub of the Year 2011 – Royal Oak, Staffhurst Wood
The Royal Oak, Staffhurst Wood, was voted our branch cider pub of the year for 2011.
As well as serving great cider, the Royal Oak also sells great beer. A 10% discount is usually given to CAMRA members, so don’t forget you membership card the next time you visit.
The certificate was presented by Clive Jennings (Branch Chair) to Julian in June 2011.
East & Mid Surrey Seasonal Pub of the Year 2011 – Three Horseshoes, Sidlow Bridge
The Three Horseshoes, Sidlow Bridge, was voted our branch seasonal pub of the year for 2011.
This award is for a pub that has made an impression on our CAMRA branch during the year. This can be for several reasons, but will usually involve such things as improved Real Ale choice and supporting CAMRA aims.
The presentation of the award took place during the East & Mid Surrey CAMRA Christmas Meal on December 6th. The certificate was handed over by Rob Wells (Branch Secretary) and was well received by Rob, the Landlord.

On Tuesday 6th October 2009 Ken Proctor, the landlord of the Surrey Oaks, was presented with both the CAMRA East & Mid Surrey Branch Pub of the Year 2009 certificate and the CAMRA Surrey Pub of the Year 2009.
This is a great recognition for all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes leading to a great selection of real ales in excellent condition being available to the customer. The beers available on the evening of the award were Oakleaf Green Gold, Ossett Cherry Porter and Cairngorm White Lady plus the regulars, Surrey Hills Ranmore Ale and Harveys Sussex Best Bitter.
