E&MS Pub Of The Year 2015 Award

Rob Wells (Branch Chair) presents Tracy Rogers with the E&MS Pub Of The Year 2015 Award

The award was presented at the end of an E&MS Branch Meeting at the Surrey Oaks on Monday 13th July 2015

The new owners of the Surrey Oaks are Nick & Tracy (pictured right) Rogers.

Nick and Tracy have worked very hard to keep the traditional aspects of the pub (real ales featuring heavily), but also to add a new feel to the place. There is a new kitchen as well as a new coat of paint and new seating areas. It’s still a real gem.

The pub continues to go from strength to strength and was subsequently voted Surrey Pub Of The Year 2015 and then Regional (Surrey/Sussex) Pub of the Year 2015. A truly outstanding achievement for one of our local branch’s pubs!

E&MS Pub Of The Season (Summer) 2015 Award

Rob Wells (Branch Chair) presents Tim Sullivan with the E&MS Pub Of The Season (Summer) 2015 Award

This presentation took place on Tuesday 14th July 2015 and this was a year to the day that Cobbett’s Real Ales opened its small backroom and garden as a Micro Pub.

Cobbett’s had already been selling very interesting real ales, bottled and canned beers for nearly 5 years, but you could not, until a year ago, consume these on the premises.

Hard working Steve is pictured to the left of Rob and Tim. An equally hard working Helen Sullivan was not able to be at the presentation.

Consistency of Excellence – 10 Consecutive Years in GBG – William IV, Albury

Only the best Real Ale pubs make it into CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide, which in itself is a notable achievement. However, to make it into the guide for 10 consecutive years really is something special. The William IV at Albury Heath has done just that and in recognition of this feat, a presentation was made by Branch Chairman Rob Wells (left) to Giles Madge, landlord of the William IV. The certificate marks 10 consecutive years in CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide 2006-2015.

East & Mid Surrey Pub of the Season – Summer – Jolly Brickmakers, Redhill

Jolly Brickmakers, RedhillThe Jolly Brickmakers, Redhill, was voted Pub of the Season – Summer 2012. This is clearly easier for pubs that are free of tie or have genuine guest ale rights. The Surrey Oaks, Newdigate is once again our overall branch pub of the year for 2011. This is amazingly the ninth consecutive year that the pub has won this award.

The landlord, Ken Proctor, has been at the Surrey Oaks for an amazing seventeen years and on some occasions has even been described as ‘cheery’! Ken takes great pride in running the Surrey Oaks in a way that a few more pubs would do well to follow. With every visit to the Surrey Oaks, you are able to enjoy a fantastic range of ever changing real-ales as well as some excellent food in the restaurant. The certificate was presented by Clive Jennings (Branch Chair) with Ross Hunter (Surrey Hills Brewery) in the background.

E&MS CAMRA have always rated the Garland very highly and this award is much deserved.

During the presentation on 8th June, Miles Jenner (Head Brewer and Joint Managing Director at Harveys) also made a special appearance. The certificate was presented by Clive Jennings (Branch Chair)
