Summer holiday season so included below are suggested weekend dates and trips that may appeal to those members who are not on holiday; self-guided rather than led by a committee member. They are trips that Les has done and can make a great day out. If you try any of these trips please let Les have your feedback and dates, and if you’re going contact Spike who might join you.
Weds 1st Preview Night at the 30th Egham Beer Festival Branch Social from 7pm Festival then runs until Sunday 5th, so plenty of time to get along for a great selection of ales.
4/5th The Star Tavern, 6 Belgrave Mews East. See Page 305 of the GBG, for information. If you can visit the pub on a Monday, which is “Pie Monday” and order a Pie meal, you will get a free pint of London Pride, but check first if the offer is still on. Travel : Tube to Knightsbridge and about an 8 min walk. Use Google Maps App to find the pub or you might miss it.
GBBF 7th to 11th Another great reason to attend GBBF is that Thames Side Brewery Harrier Bitter and White Swan Pale Ale will be available in the hall, and Black Swan Porter in the Volunteer Arms. Well done Andy and Michelle on getting your excellent beers into Britains biggest beer festival!
11/12th The Sultan, 78 Norman Rd, South Wimbledon. Train to Waterloo, then Northern line south bond via Kennington (change to south bound platform ), onto South Wimbledon Stn. Out of Stn turn right into Merton High Rd and you will find Norman Rd about 7 streets down on the left hand side. Try their Pork pies and all 6 beers. Also nearby is the award winning Trafalgar with another 6 beers!
18/19th Pub crawl in Hanwell W7 – tube to Boston Manor Stn, then any bus towards Ealing/Hanwell or Greenford. Get off at stop nearest to Oaklands Rd and walk down it until you hit the cross roads with the Grosvenor pub (CD) on the corner. Next go back to Boston Rd., turn right and walk down to where the Boston Rd meets The Lwr Boston Rd and turn into the one-way street to find the Dodo Micropub (West Middlesex CAMRA POTY 2018) amongst the shops. Return to the Lwr Boston Rd, walk past the Prince of Wales on the corner – you can try it on the way back or the Village Inn (prev the Vic) across the Rd – down to the Green W7 pub (CD) on the green with 5 changing beers. Cross over and walk down Green Lane to the Fox, near the Canal.
25/26th The Royal Oak, Borough SE1, one of only 2 Harveys brewery pubs in London, P.297 GBG. Try all 5 Harvey’s beers plus one Fullers. SW train to Waterloo then Tube to London Bridge, from here it’s a short walk down Borough High St to Tabard St. Although Borough Stn is the nearest Tube Stn you might like to visit Borough Market and try the Market Porter Pub plus other Market pubs.
Fri.31st to Sun.2nd September BeerFest at the Beehive, Englefield Green
CD means CAMRA Discount may be offered.
Tues.4th Branch Meeting @ 8pm at the Barley Mow, Englefield Green.
Tues.11th @ 8pm Branch Social Thames Court, Shepperton. Lovely riverside setting, come and say hello.
Sat.27th @ 8pm meet at the Olde Swan Hotel, Chertsey for a Tour of Chertsey Pubs
